Worm Farms at home

Here is Fletcher's worm farm and a bit about why they have one at home.

Well done Fletcher on helping our environment!

This  is our worm farm. We use our worm farm to help reduce our waste and to get worm tea for our garden, we bought our worm farm from trade me and our worms came from our Grandma and Poppa's worm farm because they were getting too many.
We feed our worms every few days because they are new and are still getting used to their new home. When they start to eat more we will feed them more often. We feed them food like banana peel, apple cores, egg shells, broccoli stalks and carrot. Each time we add food we sprinkle soil over the top of the food to help the worms. We also have a hesian sack over the soil to help keep the moisture in.
Now it is winter we have moved our worm farm onto our covered deck so it doesn't  get to much rain, in summer we will move it to a shady spot in our garden.

Litterless Lunch box!

Room 19 have set the challenge!

To bring a litterless lunch box to school.. So far they have had 15 of their class without rubbish in their lunch boxes!

Can we do better?????

Do you have any polystyrene boxes at home? To make our worm farm we need 2 boxes the same size and 1 lid.

We also need a bucket of compost, newspaper and 4 bricks.

Also if anyone already has a worm farm that could supply us with some worms to start off!

Please email Miss Macartney if you can help.

Thanks!
